Gas Chromatography (GC)

Gas chromatography is  the most appropriate  method of essential oils analysis. The picture below shows the Agilent Tech. 6850 GC system equipped with flame ionized detector (FID). This simple GC  set up allows the routine analysis of known essential oils for their purity.  For further details on the theories and applications of  this  chromatographic method one could refer to our  dedicated chromatography webpage. Here, we will be  looking at the GC-MS system of analysis by using lemongrass essential oil as an example.
